Do the Experts Agree?
Kathy Huang, MD, director of the endometriosis program at NYU’s Langone Medical Center, says diet plays a key role in endometriosis. She explains that it is an inflammatory disease and any food that contributes to inflammation increases the patient’s symptoms. Moreover, this includes dairy and any processed foods. She explains that a patient who maintains an anti-inflammatory diet will improve their overall health and not only their endometriosis symptoms.
Ken Sinervo, MD, medical director of the Center for Endometriosis Care in Atlanta, also agrees. He explains that an anti-inflammatory diet, in general, is highly recommended, by eliminating refined sugars and carbohydrates. to also incorporate organic fruits, vegetables, and meats.
Both doctors agree that a healthy eating plan will reduce the painful symptoms of endometriosis, however, it will not treat it alone. Therefore, it requires a combination of treatments involving surgeons, nutritionists, acupuncture, physical therapy, and psychologists.

However, she is on a mission to remove the poor thinking around eating healthy. She expresses that “it’s not just because healthy food is packed with nutrients that is good for you. It is also because whole, natural foods which are cooked with love, also taste absolutely fantastic.”
