Arin Babaian works as Channing Tatum’s personal trainer, getting him into shape for all of his movies. The self-discipline and determination required is vigorous and there is always certain weaknesses and indulgences that arise during trying times, as is normal with anyone.

“Underneath the rocking body, Channing’s the kid who loves to eat cake. While we were training for his latest movie we’d go to dinner and the bread basket would come and I’d have to beat him to it,” says Arin.

Tatum’s workout regime changes and adjusts according to the role he is training to play.

Channing worked out for three hours sporadically throughout the day, and always made sure he had enough time to eat properly, following a gluten and dairy free diet.

On average, Channing’s routine included:

  • A 32km morning bike ride
  • A pre-lunch workout consisting of 5 water burpees
this basically entails doing a lap in the pool, then jumping out, doing 10 sit-ups and then jumping back in for the next lap.
  • A post-lunch weight training session mainly doing presses, squats and bench presses
  • An afternoon conditioning circuit, repeated four times, comprising of:

– 0,5km run on the treadmill at 11km/h
– 10 push-ups
– 10 pull-ups
– 15 dips
– 20 alternating jumping lunges
– 30 sit-ups
– 15 knees-to-elbows

  • A 10km night run, finishing off with a sprint at the end

Working out in itself, though very important, is not enough to keep fit. How you choose to fuel your body is just as important.

Channing’s diet largely consists of lean proteins such as chicken, and not being too fond of vegetables, he often packs them into nourishing smoothies, complimented with fresh fruits in order to make it more palatable.

Though the Channing Tatum health and fitness regime will undoubtedly get you Magic Mike ready, it’s not a realistic daily approach for most people.

So Arin Babaian has a few strength building workout suggestions in order to build that lean, flexible muscle tone:

Strength Training

  • Squats
These are great to firm up your gluts and legs, which Arin admits that lots of guys ignore
  • Pull-ups
According to Arin, “A lot of people have trouble with these, so start small. Do one, and if you can’t do one, pull yourself as high as you can get.”
  • Shoulder presses
“Guys, especially, are obsessed with their chest — and that’s important. But shoulders are even more so. It gives a V-shape and proportion,” he adds.
  • Sit-ups
They will always be a staple and efficient exercise to build up those much desired abs

According to the American Heart Association, in order to keep healthy and fit an adult should also do:

30 minutes of moderately intensity aerobic exercise at least five days per week
Or
25 minutes of vigorous aerobic exercise at least three days per week for a total of 75 minutes

Include a moderate to high-intensity muscle strengthening training at least twice a week.
